Falling Enrollment Puts Miami-Dade Schools Under Budget Pressure
Miami-Dade public schools have lost nearly 16,000 students, the Miami Herald reported on October 23, raising concerns about school funding.
The newspaper says the October enrollment count directly affects the district’s funding. Earlier reporting by WGCU also documented declining enrollment and cited district officials pointing to lower birth rates, changing migration patterns and the region’s high cost of living.
The figures highlight a challenge for public education: schools must adjust to fewer students while continuing to support those who remain.
